Posted October 09, 2018 08:04:04In a statement on its website, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) said that the Visma journalist who allegedly murdered the blogger, a journalist from New Delhi, had been detained and is being interrogated by the police.
The ministry said it is investigating the blogger’s death and is taking all appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the media persons, as well as their families.
“We condemn the murder of the journalist, and we will work with the police to arrest the person responsible,” the ministry said in a statement.
The blogger was murdered on October 2 in New Delhi.
He had been posted at the countrys largest online news aggregator, The Indian Express, for two years.
A video posted on social media purportedly showing the killing showed the blogger being beaten and his body covered with blood.
The Visma website is operated by a journalist who works for a news portal.
The Indian media is not allowed to cover such cases as they are deemed sensitive, according to the country’s media watchdog.
Visma had posted the video of the killing and posted a statement condemning the killing.
“The media persons killed in this heinous act are not the media,” the Vimalas statement read.
“We condemn this heinous murder and take appropriate measures.”
